William4 WALLIS born say 1713, son of Samuel 3 and Hannah (Seavey) Wallis. He died Portsmouth before 25 March 1747 when administration of his estate was granted to his widow. [N.H. State Papers 33:441], married at Rye, 15 August 1738, Comfort COTTON, daughter of Thomas3 (John2 William1) and Comfort (Riggs) Cotton of Portsmouth [Rye VRs, p. 167]. She was born ca. 1718 and died 20 March 1749 [NEHGR 88:90]. Comfort married secondly at Rye, 30 June 1748, James Knowles, son of John and Tryphena (Locke) Knowles. [Rye VRs, p. 166] In his will dated 2 January 1768, Thomas Cotton left a bequest of 60 acres in Portsmouth to his three grandchildren by his daughter Comfort Wallis, deceased, viz. Samuel, William and Spencer Wallis. [N.H. State Papers 39:85-86].
William is called the eldest son of Samuel in a court case regarding the estate [N.H. Provincial Court Case #25759]. In Samuel's will, William is listed first and given the 50 acre lot in Epsom as well as land described in the will as the land in Epsom he received of William Seavey in the third range, lot 101. This description is used by the three sons of William4 in their land transactions.
William is the only one of his brothers not to leave a will. The inventory of his estate amounted to £260-7-0. The guardianship of his three sons all aged less than fourteen, was granted to Thomas Cotton on 26 July 1749. On 18 August 1752, Samuel was said to be 14 to 15 years old and hence born likely right after his parents' marriage. [N.H. Provincial Court Case #8001].
