from Find A Grave, posted by Amy Dacyzyn, and an email in April 2013

Birth: Mar. 5, 1812
West Topsham
Orange County
Vermont, USA
Death: Apr. 22, 1896
Lowell
Middlesex County
Massachusetts, USA

Photographer Rick Weaver deserves the highest findagrave kudos. He had not found the stone originally, then went back in the following days, did some gentle prodding, found the stone and excavated it enough to take the picture. The second photo is of the plot and the stone of Amy's niece, Laura Avery, who died in 1876. Amy's stone was found to the immediate right of her niece's stone.

Amy was the youngest of four known children born to Abial and Phebe (Stiles) Butler. In two records she was listed as "Emma," and so perhaps she had a middle name.

She married first to Thomas Foss in Topsham on October 13, 1835. It is not known what became of him.

According to the Stiles genealogy Amy married "Mr. Libbey." Massachusetts marriage records show that "Emma Foss," who was from Topsham, Vermont, and the daughter of Abial and Phebe Butler, married Isaac Libbey in Lowell in October 17, 1855. Isaac was the son of Richard and Esther Libbey of Deerfield, New Hampshire. The marriage record said it was his first marriage and her second marriage.

Amy had no known children by either marriage. She and Isaac lived in Dracut where he worked as a farmer. On the 1880 census she was not living with Isaac, but listed as married. She lived took boarders in her home in Lowell.

Amy died of gangrene in 1896. She left her estate to her great-niece Ida (Butler) Emerson. The plot is owned by Ida, who put it in perpetual care in 1897.

On Amy's death record, the space for marital status was not filled in. There is a dash mark as if the information was unknown.

It is not known what became of Isaac. He may be the same Isaac Libbey who died in Deerfield, New Hampshire, in 1889 at age 72. This Isaac was about the right age to be Amy's husband and he does not show up on Deerfield census records as having lived there in the decades prior his death. The death record said he was married but did not list names of spouse or parents. He was also a farmer.

A collection of coin-silver teaspoons with Amy's name engraved on them has been passed down and remains in the family.

Burial:
Edson Cemetery
Lowell
Middlesex County
Massachusetts, USA
Plot: Lot 44, range 55
