Stevens Genealogy from Steans gives the wife of Jesse Stevens as Abigail Sherburne, born Epsom, NH March 16, 1793. Searching the Epsom Sherburne families, either the Abigails were accounted for, or the time period incorrect. However, the Nathaniel Sherburne family on the 1800 census gives 3 daughters in the household under 10 years of age. Genealogies of the family have always accounted for only two, Mary and Elizabeth. This Abigail fits in nicely with this family. (see notes for father Nathaniel).
In addition, John Sherburne, first born son of this family, names one of his children, Jesse Stevens Sherburne. In addition, sister Elizabeth who married John S. Rand, had a daughter Nancy V. (v an uncommon initial) and did Jessie and Abigail Stevens. These seem to tie Abigail to the family of Nathaniel Sherburne and Molly Sanders, and has thus been placed there. EPSOM, Oct. 20 - Albert D. Sherburne, 82, a lifelong resident of this community, died suddenly at this home yesterday. He was the son of James and Lucy (Bickford) Sherburne, and is survived by a daughter, Miss Nellie F. Sherburne of Epsom; a cousin, Ralph H. Sherburne of Penacook; nieces and nephews.
Mr. Sherburne was a past grand of Evergreen lodge, I.O.O.F. of Short Falls, of which he was a 50 year members; and of Ivy Green Rebekah lodge of Short Falls. He served for 30 years as a deputy fire warden.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2 o'clock at the Epsom Baptist church.
