NHVR n death record of son William, the birthplace of his parents is given as Rye, NH.
NHVR death record for daughter Abigail Healey gives fathers birth as Stratham, and mother Susanna as Deerfield, NH
Buried in the Robinson Cemetery, Epsom, NH. Died age 68-5-0
It is difficult to determine whether these children are correct. According to the census of 1790, a John Robinson had 1 male under ten, 1 female 10 or older and three females under age 10. There were only 3 Robinson families in Epsom, NH, of which only John would have been old enough to have children born and called "of Epsom, NH" to account for the children of his first marriage. Based on the children's known deaths etc., there seems to be no other conflict or possiblity. The will further gives creedence.
"In the name of God amen, I John Robinson of Epsom, NH in the County of Merrimack and State of New Hampshire being in health of body and of sound memory, considering the uncertainty of this life and being ?? to better my worldly affairs while I have capacity to do so, do make and publish this my last will and testament in amnner and form following:
1st I give and bequeath to my beloved wife Sally Robinson all the household furniture she brought with her when I married her and the beds and bedding which she has or may make during the time she lives with me, and be at her disposal forever. I also give my wife the keeping of one cow and two sheep, eight bushels of good indian corn, four bushels of wheat, thirty bushels of potatoes, ten bushels of good apples; a sufficient quantity of garden vegetables, peas and beans for her own use, also a sufficient quantity of wood hauled and cut at the door to supply one fire ? early and every year during the time she may remain my widow. I also give my wife the use of the east room and the east chamber in my house, a privilege in the cellar and in the ?? during the time aforesaid. I also give my wife one cow and two sheep to be ?? disposal.
2nd I give and bequeath to my four daughters, viz Betsey Dow, Sally Dowst, Nancy Brown and Abigail Healey one dollar each to be paid by my executer in one year after my decease.
3rd , I give and bequeath to my son William Robinson all the rest and residue of my personal estate to be for his use and his disposal forever, and all my real estate to be for his use and occupation during his natural life, and at the said Williams decease to his eldest son then living and to the oldest son of each generation for fifteen generations.
Lastly I hereby constitute and appoint my son William Robinson sole Executer of this my last will and testament hereby revoking all former wills by me made.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this seventeenth day of October A.D. 1836 - John Robinson
Proved, approved and allowed the Fourth Tuesday of January A.D. 1840
Epsom, NH Town records on the death of Wiliam, give his "residence" as Rye, NH. It appears that this column was used for place of birth.
General Notes: Wife - Betsey Dennett
Buried in the Robinson Cemetery, Epsom, NH. The 1800 census gives the household 1 male between 10 and 16 plus 3 females under 10, and one female 10 to 16. Whether she was already of Epsom, NH is unknown, for her spouses connection to Epsom, NH is unsure. Could he have moved here because this was her home ?
In the notes of John and Henry Dowst of Allenstown, NH: "John Robinson married July 7, 1791 Sarah Dennett. (he) lived in the Philbrick Place prior to 1792 and also served in the Revolution.. and the Dennett Family lived on the present Dowst Farm." Her nickname may have been Betsey, as this information would give an Epsom, NH Connection and the date of the marriage corresponds to the birth of children.
From gravestone, died age 27
Notes: Marriage
Married by Ebenexer Hazeltine, she is named Sarah, but gravestone gives her as Betsy. Only one Dennett family in Epsom, 1790, Joseph with 2 males 16 and over and 4 females, indicating 3 daughters.
Dowst Records of Allenstown - Robertson, John m. July 7, 1791 Sarah Dennett, said to be of Allenstown. A John Robertson lived on the Philbrick place previous to 1797 and also served in the Revolutionary War. The Dennett family lived on the present Dowst Farm. (page 67)
