Vol. 42 pp 55-59 "Lot 89..Epsom, NH, Nathaniel Wallace, son of Samuel, in 1796 with wife Deborah, deed, to John Dolloff...the part west of the road..and to Joseph Towle, the east part..lot 89. Perhaps moved to Holderness, NH
iv. Nathaniel5 baptized in 1746 [Greenland VRs, p. 89], still living in 1830 in Moultonborough. Nathaniel is living with his father in Barrington when he elected hog reeve there on 30 March 1768 [Barrington Town Records 1:443]. Nathaniel married about 1770-71, Deborah (---), born say 1750 and alive in 1830. Nathaniel seems to be the private in Capt. John Hill's company on Seavey's Island on 5 November 1775. [NHSP 14:235]. This appears to be his only known service during the war. He next appears in Epsom in the 1790 census there with a household consisting of two males over 16; six males under 16 and three females. On 27 August 1792, Nathaniel Wallis of Epsom, yeoman sold to Joseph March of Deerfield, a certain tract in Epsom, lot no. 88 in the third range and a lot containing 32 1/2 acres "land I purchased of my honored Father and the farm that I now live on." [Rockingham Co. Deeds 135:77]. Sadly, the grantee deed from Samuel Wallis no longer exists. On 10 May 1796, Nathaniel Wallace of Epsom, yeoman sold to John Dolloff of Epsom, land in Epsom, part of the lots 88 and 89 in the third range, being the same I now live on containing 30 acres. Deborah releases dower. [Rockingham Co. Deeds 142:390]. On 24 June 1796, Nathaniel of Epsom sold to Joseph Towle, part of Lots 88 and 89 int he third range containing 47 acres and 64 rods. Again Deborah releases dower. [Rockingham Co. Deeds 144:81]. These two deeds dovetail nicely with the deed of 30 March 1796 where John Hubbard of Sandwich sells to Nathaniel Wallis of Epsom, 70 acres in Moultonborough. in the 2nd division of lots. [Strafford Co. Deeds 27:250]. Likewise on 28 May 1796 where Peter Moulton of Moultonborough quitclaims to Nathaniel Wallace of Epsom his rights to a common piece of land first drawn to the right of Benning Moulton. [Strafford Co. Deeds 40:16]. Nathaniel appears in the 1800 census in Moultonborough with a household of 2 men 10-15; two 16-26; one over 45; one female under 10; one 16-25 and one over 45. It appears that at least one of his sons is married and living with him. Immediately next to him in the census is a Samuel Wallace. In a bizarre incident in 1803, Nathaniel was held against his will by James Chase of Sandwich over the purchase of a horse. [Strafford Co. Court Cases 48/1805]. This court case contains both depositions and interrogatories. On 2 July 1814 Nathaniel Wallace of Moultonborough deeds for life support to his son Isaac Wallace, giving him his farm with the exception of 7 1/2 acres already given to his daughter Marrabah (sic). [Strafford Co. Deeds 82:481] Nathaniel as Nathaniel Sr. appears in the 1820 census at Moultonborough with a household of a man over 45 and two females over 45. In the 1830 census of Moultonborough, Nathaniel appears in a household with a man 15-20 and one 80-90; one female 50-60 and one over 80-90. Ostensibly this is Nathaniel, Deborah, daughter Meribah and one farm hand (a possible relation). Next door is his son Joseph Wallace. Nathaniel leaves no probate papers. His children are gleaned from the Moultonborough marriage records which are extant, with the assumption that his early arrival there (1796) means he moved with his children, as opposed to his brother Joseph whose move is 1804-1810 when his children would have been already grown and married. However, distinguishing the children of the two men remains problematic. Only children Joseph, Meribah, and Isaac have left records that tie them directly to Nathaniel. Additionally there are probably: Samuel, Nathaniel, John, Jacob, Elizabeth and Deborah. [Samuel named after his father; Nathaniel and Deborah named after parents seem like sure bets as does Elizabeth who names children Nathaniel and Merribah].
With Samuel4 (William3) Wallis there must have been an unrecorded deed, because there are two deeds on either side of a missing one. On 17 December 1754 Thomas Bickford of Epsom, husbandman sold to Samuel Wallis of Barrington, husbandman, 60 acres in Epsom, it being lot #89 in the third range and 32 1/2 acres in lot 88. [Rockingham Co. Deeds 61:145] Then his son Nathaniel forty years later on 27 August 1792, as Nathaniel Wallis of Epsom, yeoman sold to Joseph March of Deerfield, a certain tract in Epsom, lot no. 88 in the third range and a lot containing 32 1/2 acres "land I purchased of my honored Father and the farm that I now live on." [Rockingham Co. Deeds 135:77]. The description of the land is exact. However, the intervening deed from Samuel to Nathaniel was never recorded. (edited from M. Hollick)

Joseph Wallace (Jr.) is in Moultonborough in the 1850 census age 33. He is then in Center Harbor in 1860 age 46. He dies before the 1870 census when his wife is listed alone back in Moultonborough. Based on name, age, and location, this likely the third child we can assign to Joseph (Sr.). Joseph (Jr.) was born ca. 1816. M. Hollick research.
