Notes
General:
John Wiggin resided in Newmarket until 1784 and then moved to
Northwood. He was a Patriot, probably first in defense of Piscataqua Harbor,
then in the march to Canada which began at Charlestown on the Connecticut
River. Later, he joined one of the regiments sent to reinforce the army in
NY. Bailey's Guide to the History and Old Dwellings of Northwood says that
he was in Northwood before 1787, having settled on the main road just above
Thomas Piper. Here with his wife Elizabeth he constructed a low-posted, one
story house with a big center chimney.
