Epsom, NH, Sept. 8 (1934) - John W. Griffin died at his home in Epsom, NH Center on Thursday evening Sept. 6. Mr. Griffin had been in failing health for some time, He was born in Roxbury, Mass., on Nov. 2, 1854; and was the son of Jacob Eastman Griffin and Mary Henry Griffin. Mr. Griffin's father and grandfather were both born in Northwood.
The greater part of his life was spent in Massachusetts; his home was in Hyde Park, before he moved to Epsom and bought the estate in Epsom center where he made his home for the past twenty years. After moving to Epsom he served as selectman in that town. For a long term of years he was cemetery trustee and trustee of trust funds for the town; and also served a number of terms as trustee of the Epsom Public Library in which he was actively interested. The survivors are the widow, Mrs. Flora C. Griffin, one son Trescott Griffin of Brighton, Mass., and a daughter, Miss Elsa Atwood Griffin of Springfield, Mass. Funeral services will be held at the home on Sunday afternoon, Sept. 9, with Ralph T. Osborn, pastor of the Epsom, NH Baptist church as clergyman. Bearers were John W. Cox, Hollis Hall, Harry Silver, William H. Knowles, George H. Yeaton and Walter H. Quimby. Burial was in the family lot in McClary cemetery, Epsom center.
