August 10, 1838 SAMUEL DAVIS "aged 80 years if I live until the second day of next September, " repeated his former testimony in regard to Grant; but states: "I myself enlisted in the war of the Revolution under a Capt. Jewell of Stratham, Rockingham County, New Hampshire (Rye and Greenland are on the ?? ) and was marched to West Point in New York where I was detached under a Capt. Cheeseman of Conn. to blast rocks to make a cistern for Fort Putnam that would hold a vast many hogsheads of water for the use of the fort aforesaid"...."Andre's execution made an impression on me that I never shall forget while life lasts." (from deposition for John Grant)

WILL of Samuel Davis 1817-1829-1835
Know all men by these presents that I Samuel Davis of Epsom in the county of Rockingham & State of New Hampshire yeoman considering my mortality and the necessity of settling my worldly business while in health therefore being of sound and disposing mind and memory do make and publish this my last will and testament and form following, viz:
Firstly I give and bequeath unto my beloved wife Nabby Davis one cow and two sheep to be kept on the farm where I know live so long as she shall remain and reside on said farm.
Secondly I give and bequeath unto my daughter Betsey Fowler one dollar.
Thirdly I give to my son John Davis one dollar.
Fourthly I give to my son Samuel Davis one dollar.
Fifthly I give and bequeath to my daughter Nabby Fowler one dollar.
Sixthly I give and bequeath to my daughter Nancy Griffin one cow.
Seventhly I give and bequeath unto my son Amos Davis all the residue and remainder of my estate real and personal which I have not disposed of in this my last will and testament that I may be then owner of at my decease and I hereby order and direct that my said son Amos Davis pay all the aforementioned legacies in this my last will and testament of any description and I hereby appoint Hall Burgin executor to this my last will and testament heretofore by me made.
In witness whereof I hereunto set my hand and seal this thirteenth day of May in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and seventeen.

Whereas I Samuel Davis of Epsom in the county of Merrimack and State of New Hampshire yeoman, have mad and duly executed my last will and testament in writing bearing date the thirteenth of May AD 1817, now I do hereby declare this pursuant writing to be as a codicil to may said will and direct the same to be annexed thereto and take as part thereof.
And I do hereby give and bequeath to any present beloved wife Betsy Davis all the household furniture and all other articles of provision which I may have and am the owner of and in actual possession of and being within my dwelling house and cellar at the time of my decease (except my eight day clock and large bible) and all the fulled cloth I also give to my said wife Betsey Davis.
In witness thereof I hereunto set my hand and seal this seventh day of July AD one thousand eight hundred and twenty-nine.

In witness thereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal the seventeenth day of February AD 1855 (note: Probably 1835 and misread by copyist as he died in 1839)
