General Notes: Wife - Mercy Clough
The book on the genealogy of John Brown p. 10 gives the son of Benjamin and Sarah (Gove) Brown, Jonathan marrying Miriam (Mercy) Clough Dec. 1, 1743 and on page 32 Jonathan Brwon married Miriam (Marcy) Clough on the same date.
Aaron and Abigail Clough of Salisbury, MA had daughter Mercy, born Oct. 22, 1721 and Miriam born February of 1728. Massachusetts marriage records give the marriage of Jonathan Brown to Mercy Clough December 1, 1743 at Salisbury, MA.
A Miriam Clough married at Salusbury in 1748 and Ebenezer Currier and another Miriam married in 1751 at Salisbury a Jonathan Elliot. If Mirian had married Brown in 1743, she would have been age 15. It would also appear that Miriam, dau of Aaron and Abigail died young. A Miriam Clough was also born to Samuel and Sarah Clough at Salisbury March 17, 1725 and
Many sources incorrectly give Miriam as the spouse of Jonathan Brown.
Appears as Marcy in will of husband.

Fifthly I give and bequeath to my son Jonathan Brown all the rest, residue and remainder of my real and personal estate which I have not disposed of to others before named in this will, and I hereby order and require that he said Jonathan Brown pay out of my estate all the sums herein named and to comply with all the provisions heretofore named in this will and to pay all my legal debts and funeral charges and I hereby constitute and appoint him the said Jonathan Brown, Executor of this my last will and testament.

3-15-1830 MARY SMITH BROWN - In Epsom, Feb. 21, Mrs. Mary Brown, wife of Jonathan Brown, and daughter of Richard Smith of Kingston, aged 63. She has left numerous connections to mourn their loss. She was a kind and affectionate wife, a tender mother, a faithful friend, and hospitable to the poor, and above all, in her most trying moments gave perfect evidence that her primary study and aim was to known and to do the will of her Heavenly Father; and that she had a treasure in heaven, and her name written in full faith the promise of her Savior, that where he is there she shall be also.
