Charles McClary, the only son of John, located in Canada, and a letter from his daughter Nancy, thus briefly sums up his life; "Charles McClary, born Sept. 18, 1792, came to Canada with his step-father when this country was new, and of course new all about pioneer life. At the age of 23, he married Betsey Cass, and they together, about three miles north of Stansfield and Derby Line, made themselves a comfortable home out of the widlerness, frist in a little log house, as prosperity increased and his family grew up, they built a fine house and set of barns, second to none in the Township."
