General Notes: Husband - Benjamin Wallace

Benjamin5, born about 1763, died at Sandwich between 1 January 1821 and 9 January 1824 when administration of his estate was granted to Daniel Hoit [Strafford Co. Probate 30:390]. Benjamin claimed to be 18 when he enlisted at Portsmouth on 20 June 1781 and deposed as age 55 on 24 April 1818 [Rev. War Pension File #S44003]. He married on 18 March 1780 at Greenland [Rye VRs, p. 167], Deborah FULLER, daughter of Jeremiah and Mary (Scadgell) Fuller. They were third cousins. She was also the sister of the Margaret Fuller who married Benjamin's first cousin Joseph5 (Samuel4). She was baptized at Rye on February 1756 [Rye VRs, p. 44] and was living on 11 October 1825 when she is mentioned as "widow Deborah Wallace" in the accounts of her husband's probate records [Strafford Co. Probate 34:108-109]. On the 1 January 1821 he deposed being aged 56 and owning livestock and sundry items but no land. In his 1818 deposition he notes that his wife (unnamed) was aged 60 years and very infirm; son Jeremiah [in records as Jere] aged 35 not capable of giving any assistance, son Benjamin, non compis mentis, and daughter Hannah, unable to give any assistance. No further information is provided in the pension file. Jeremiah Wallace is owed $50.00 by the estate of Benjamin Wallace on 25 February 1825 [Strafford Co. Probate 35:110]. Benjamin is not enumerated in the 1790 census, but does appear in the 1800 census at Sandwich with a household of two boys under 10; two 10 to 15; one man 26 to 45; one girl under 10 and one woman 26 to 45. That would seem to indicate a family of 4 sons and one daughter. From the pension papers we know the names of two of the sons and one daughter. One of the other sons is probably George Wallace, born 1795 who is noted in Sanbornton. According to Runnels's version he was "a cousin of Stephen Wallace, born in Sandwich, and his father's name may be Jeremiah." Certainly he would be Stephen6 (Reuben5)'s first cousin. Perhaps the Jeremiah is a muddling of his grandfather's name? However, he names a daughter Deborah F. Wallace. (i.e. after his mother Deborah Fuller). Another daughter must be Mary Ann, the wife of Thomas Wallace, ostensibly, her first cousin and son of John5. On 1 January 1821, Benjamin Wallis of Sandwich, husbandman for $95.00 sells to Maryan (sic) Wallace of Sandwich, wife of Thomas Wallis, spinster, 50 acres in Moultonborough. [Strafford Co. Deeds 120:415]. Thomas and Mary Ann sell that land on 24 March 1824 to Hugh B. Hilton [both deeds recorded 1 April 1824, Strafford Co. Deeds 120:416] Although no specific relationship is given, it strongly appears as a father giving a daughter land in her own right. That leaves one unaccounted son. In the 1810 census for Sandwich there is a Samuel, Weymouth, and two Williams. One William could be the extra son and the other William is likely the son of John above.
