EPSOM \endash Matthew McWain Hodgins Jr., 48, of Black Hall Road, died Thursday, Oct. 8, 2015, at the Concord Hospice House following a courageous battle with cancer.

He was born in Concord the son of U.S. Navy Cmdr. Matthew M. Hodgins Sr. and Marcia J. (Stockman) Hodgins.

He grew up in Pittsfield and was a graduate of Pittsfield Middle High School in 1985 and Keene State Collage in 1989. He also was a graduate of the Divers Academy of the Eastern Seaboard and also the NH Police Training Council and worked as a NH State Corrections Officer. He was an accomplished under water gold miner. He was employed as a commercial diver and lastly by the Exel Co. in Bow as an inventory control specialist.

He is survived by his mother, Marcia Stockman of Epsom. A brother, Andrew Hodgins of Kingfield, Maine. A sister, Victoria Best and her husband, David of Rochester. A niece, Penelope Hodgins, a nephew, Simon Best. Three aunts, Carol Bartlett, Sara Laro and Ardra Cate. Several cousins and a great uncle, Brian Hatch and wife, Elaine of Canterbury.

He was predeceased by his father and his sister-in-law (Andrews wife) Samantha Wright.

There are no visiting hours.
